Beginner’s Corner: Your Guide to a Fun First Ride with Noida Cycling Club
Taking your first step into group cycling can feel both exciting and intimidating, and that’s perfectly normal. If you’re considering your first ride with Noida Cycling Club (NCC), you’re joining one of the most active and supportive cycling communities in Delhi-NCR. Known not just for its miles on the road, NCC is equally recognised for the way it welcomes beginners and helps them grow with confidence.
Whether you’re returning to cycling after a long break or riding in a group for the very first time, Noida Cycling Club ensures that your introduction is smooth, structured, and genuinely enjoyable.
Why Ride with Noida Cycling Club?
Noida Cycling Club is not just about covering kilometres, it’s about fitness, camaraderie, and discipline. From the very first ride, beginners are treated as equals. There is no pressure to chase speed, no silent competition, and no fear of being left behind.
Many riders who today comfortably ride NCC’s popular stretches, such as the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway, the Okhla Bird Sanctuary loop, or weekend rides towards India Gate, Lodhi Garden, and the Ridge started exactly where you are now.
As long-time NCC member Mr Biplav Chatterjee shared from his experience:
“NCC is one of the largest and most caring cycling clubs, where senior riders constantly support newcomers.”
That culture of care is what sets Noida Cycling Club apart.
Preparing for Your First Ride
Beginner rides at Noida Cycling Club are thoughtfully planned to help new cyclists ease into group riding without stress.
What you can expect:
- Distance: Around 15 to 25 km
- Pace: Comfortable and conversational
- Bikes: MTB, hybrid, or road bikes are all welcome
- Mandatory: Helmet and water bottle
- Recommended: Light snack, basic repair kit, comfortable footwear, and adequate rest
There’s no expectation of fancy gear or high fitness. Coming on time, riding safely, and enjoying the journey matter far more than the bicycle you ride.
What Happens on Ride Day?
Most Noida Cycling Club rides commence from the Great India Place sharp at 6:30 am, when Noida’s roads are calm and quiet. Riders usually gather by 6:15 am, allowing time for introductions, bike checks, and a short briefing.
Before rolling out, the ride leader explains the planned route and regrouping points, safety rules and hand signals, as well as the expected pace and breaks.
Beginner rides strictly follow Noida Cycling Club’s no-drop policy meaning no rider is ever left behind. Ride leaders constantly check on the group, adjust speed when needed, and make sure everyone feels comfortable.
As Ankit Hindwan, one of Noida Cycling Club’s former ride coordinators, put it: “The goal of a beginner ride isn’t distance or speed. It’s to make sure every rider finishes feeling confident enough to come back again.”
Breaks, Conversations, and Familiar NCC Stops
Every Noida Cycling Club ride includes planned pauses, often at iconic food destinations, such as the Mysore Cafe and Bengali Sweet Shop at Connaught Place, Gujarat Bhavan at Chanakyapuri, the tea shops at Khan Market and other familiar spots. Other pit stops include familiar landmarks like the Okhla Bird Sanctuary gate, shaded service roads along the expressway, and other popular chai and snack stops. These breaks are where conversations flow, photos are taken, and unfamiliar faces slowly turn into familiar ones.
Most rides include chai and snacks, and for beginners, these moments often become just as memorable as the cycling itself.
How You’ll Feel After the Ride
Once the ride ends, most first-timers feel pleasantly tired but deeply satisfied. There’s a sense of achievement not just for completing the distance, but for riding safely in a group and overcoming early nerves.
Physically, you may feel your legs ache slightly. Mentally, you’ll likely feel lighter, calmer, and more confident. Many beginners are surprised by how energised and focused they feel for the rest of the day, and how quickly thoughts shift to “When is the next ride?”
As another Noida Cycling Club rider, Priyanka Kumar, puts it:
“Four wheels move the body, two wheels ride the soul”, a sentiment many NCC riders echo after weekend rides.
Ready to Begin?
Every experienced rider once started with a single early-morning ride. Set your alarm, prepare your bicycle the night before, and take that first step. Noida Cycling Club is here to support your journey, helping you ride safely, stronger, and happier with every kilometre.
We look forward to riding with you.
